My Rant on Health Insurance

Last year I would have said that I was so glad to have health insurance. I was (and still am) so grateful that we were not responsible for all of Audrey's chemo drugs, hospital stays, doctors visits and everything else that goes on with having cancer. Last year our out of pocket expenses were met the second week of January.

This year we have probably reached out of pocket expenses but I am not as grateful for my insurance company this year. When you look at the amount of money we make and start crunching numbers...well it is absurd that we are required to pay $3,000 out of pocket each year and then most but not all is covered. I am sorry $3,000 is a lot of money! And we can't travel away from our "network area" or out of pocket expenses jump to $8,000.

Apparently our insurance company caps the amount of money they will spend on immunizations we were responsible for $700 of Elysse's immunizations last year. And we are suppose to be happy that we have health insurance?

I don't care who you are, namely what political party you belong to, vote for or believe in...we have a problem here. This nation has a health care crisis!

We took all three kids to the doctor's office today. They all have the flu (glad we spent so much money on their required flu shots) the medicine to help them "possibly get over the flu faster" was $184. I want to throw up and not because I have the flu. I probably wouldn't have even taken them (or myself later this afternoon) except that people have been getting the flu then it turns to pneumonia and a couple of people in our area have died from it. Bet they didn't want to go to the doctor either because they didn't want to pay for it either!

What did we spend our tax refund on this year? Oh you know, meeting our out of pocket health insurance...

I totally agree! When I stop working to put the baby and myself on Shem's insurance is going to cost us another chunk of money each month! We won't be "poor" enough to put the baby on medicare until after August when I stop getting checks too.

I can't believe that well-baby visits, immunizations etc. are not covered fully. It's only gonna get worse. Insurance and hospital should be non-prophet.

Hope the kids are all feeling better!

Hope everyone is better. We just had the flu visit us, Key in particular. After we all got our Tamiflu we were out over $150 WITH insurance. It is a racket, for sure. A crisis. But I still hate Obama's plan! LOL

I'm with you. I can't even talk about this issue without getting upset. So I'll just sayI can empathize.

Immunizations for children can be had at most public health departments for free (we got all of Rose's that way except for chicken pox but it was new then and the health dept. didn't carry it yet),no matter what your income. We paid over $4000 out-of-pocket last year with John's surgery in all, but I feel very fortunate anyway--His surgery alone was $43,000 dollars. I am grateful to have health insurance and grateful for what it covers--there are so many people who have nothing
